Persistent Connection - should I use it?

Does anyone want to write a quick paragraph explaining the persistent connection option?  What are the advantages / disadvantages?  I couldn't find any old posts about this.

In my case, I have a dedicated server and (right now) about 2,500 posts per day.  My forum seems to be running well, but would it be even better with a persistent connection?  Or does this use more system resources?

I would suggest trying it for a few days.  Generally, you want to use it on dedicated servers.

I know this may be a dumb question... but is there any other risks with using persistent connections?

I am on a dedicated server and want to try it out.  I highly doubt it will improve performance much as we are a smaller board / site for now.

but now that I got everything working good, I want to do as little as possible in case of errors..etc.

Assuming you have MySQL tweaked and have a sensible value for wait_timeout, it should reduce the load a bit.
