Although I'm not familiar with e107, you should be able to accomplish that by using the ssi_recentPosts function in SSI.php...

Open ssi_examples.php (from your main forum directory) in your browser to see provided functions.

It's worth noting that you can, via including SSI.php in your external application (e107 in this case), also access several SMF functions not present or available in SSI.php.

Read Daniel15's posts about SSI usage -- I personally have found them to be very informative.
