Is RC2 faster than RC1? hehehe just a need for speed... make vbulletin and IPB eat some dust :)

[Unknown]

Yes, there were optimizational and speed improvements in RC2, although not as many as in past releases (we've concentrated on bug fixes...)  Most of them were in Recent.php.

Good example would be that Vbulletin is a turtle compared to SMF speed wise :). This reminds me, is SMF the fastest forum ever created (lol)?

Time files, beta 5... now RC2 is already here.

Neywho, back to topic; RC2 rocks. Let the phrasing contin 8).

Firstly, don't install a mod unless *every* step succeeds. Secondly, if worst comes to worst just reupload the files and try again (Reupload from a standard SMF install)
I'm only a half geek really...

Thanks Simplemachines, i have used it since beta 4 although never actually used the update thing, just one prob, its far too simple to use  ;D . Thanks and this is truly the best forum system ever and RC1 -> RC2 Was easy and fast, apart from uploading the files. So again thanks!  :D

ok on a package install, how do I know it worked?  I have tried the RC2 Fix Package, and all steps show success, but when I hit proceed it just refreshes the page.  Then on the package list, [apply mod] is still an option.  I'm assuming therefore it didn't install ... what am I doing wrong?

Very strange, I have 3 forums and one installed the fix no problem but the other 2 get an error:

Unable to find package file!

here is the link its trying to find:

Bummer... but I guess I can just download the tar.gz archive, upload it to my host (in the Packages directory), and install it from the Package Manager as usual, right?

Yep.

Did just that, but got this error:

Quote4.     Execute Modification     ./Sources/Subs.php     Failure

Which I tried to resolve using this advice given by Grudge:

But it still fails at that step...

Does it prompt you for an FTP password, or anything?  If it won't let you proceed, something's holding it back.

The "Unable to find package file!" error can be caused by your Packages directory not being writable.

Søren Bjerg, I'm afraid that's correct.  I suppose it should look nicer than that though, huh?  I've got an idea to fix it though... I don't suppose you could give me FTP access (to any directory, however restricted) so I can test a quick script to make it work anyway ;)?

If it won't install on Subs.php, are you certain you haven't modified it?  The step in Subs.php will fail if you're not using a 1.0 RC2 file...

Look nicer? If you're speaking of the error message, I don't really mind such error messages - when I'm the only one seeing them :).

I'm 100% sure. When it initially failed, I went back some posts in this thread, because I could remember seeing something about "if not all steps said success", and found Grudge's posts. Extracted a clean RC2 Subs.php from the full archive I downloaded back when RC2 was released to the CMs.

Please use the RC2 files from the downloads page, they are a bit newer (there were two weeks between, after all) than the ones released to Charter Members...

Ah, ok... I'll try uploading those then, and see if Subs.php still fails.

EDIT: Aye, that fixed it alright :).

Just a few minor issues found since release, such as shadow tag disabling.

Largely a test of the package manager ;).

-[Unknown]
Strange, it wont work in one forum where im giving support. Packages dir is 777, but it gives that 'There are no installation or uninstallation actions defined!' error. Could that be safe mode issue?

I have done that several times. Every time it says 'There are no installation or uninstallation actions defined!'' and that list gets longer...
