Converting using different servers?

Situation:
Server 1: runs vBulletin
Server 2: runs SMF

The forum on Server1 needs to be moved over to Server2 (and moving to better software at the same time :-) )
Now, I know I can use the converter. BUT: these two servers are on two completely different locations. Will the conversion still work? I mean: lot's of data that needs to be transferred over the Internet, network delays/latency, etc.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Is this issue solved or do you still require assistance?

The best option is to convert before you make the move. Once it is convertered you can move everything over from SMF and leave vBulletin's files behind. Which is less files to transfer then
