I have a user on my forum who can't post. Everytime he clicks the post button, the screen flashes. He is using Web TV, would that be the problem? I looked at his permission and they were fine.

WebTV (now called MSNtv since MS bought them a few years ago) follows very old standards. Although I don't believe it should be misbehaving, I don't have anything to test with. MSNtv's developer site is down, so I can't get their emulator program to take a look myself.

I am having the exact same problem with several of our users.
They say they click on the post button and it flashes and does nothing.

Sure like to find out what the problem is, so that we don't lose a ton of people, because it won't work with webtv.

There is some javascript attached to the form posting, it might be choking on this. The emulator that was released (and that I managed to track down a copy of - 2.8 build 20) was last updated in 2002 and isn't that helpful. I can't even get it to display a post button or properly log me in.

Also, are that many people using Webtv/MSNtv today? I don't recall it ever gaining a huge population of users, especially as the platform was kinda sucky as it was. The last I know, the browser on the box was below the standard of Netscape 4 and IE 4, which means most sites won't work on it anymore.

Note: the official page for the viewer download is http://developer.msntv.com/Tools/MSNTVVwr.asp but it is still down. I forget where I got the version I managed to find.

We just started using SMF on our website and are having the same problem with our webtv users. They can't post.  Has anyone found a solution?

There is another thread with some information about a possible solution here: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=26003.msg202820#msg202820

we can't have a solution when we don't know the cause of the problem :(

Im sorry, you will need to provide more information.

php/mysql version?
smf version?

Permissions are correct (check them...)?

etc...

If this is a webtv user, this is not anything that SMF could solve without rewriting the majority of templates, which would be counter-intuitive, to work with webtv which is, generally, about as good as IE4.

Don't forget to mention which version of WebTV.

The early WebTV versions were about as good as IE3. There was an update with MSNtv (new name for WebTV when Microsoft bought it) that made it work kinda in-between IE4 and 5. I've heard the newest MSNtv2 units are about IE6 functionality, but still have some things really lacking (script support being one). Also, the emulator isn't on the MSNtv site anymore (or wasn't when I last looked), but if you poke around enough you can find it elsewhere, although it hasn't been updated in over four years (and doesn't have the capabilities of msnTV 2). For real testing, you'd need an actual box with the same version of the software that is on the problem box (different versions had different functionality. Upgrades sometimes removed capabilities.)
