JPG as Thumbnail/Avatar

I'd like to suggest the above mod to be featured in SMF 2.0 along with an extra option to save avatars as JPG.  It'd save plenty of space for users.

Could be interesting with animated or transparent avatars!

Animated should be no different than PNG.  It will fail to convert it.
If necessary I can provide a function from a poster on PHP.net which can detect animation gifs.  I was planning to use it in some sort of capacity in my smf mods anyway.
