I don't know how indexes the web.  I will tell you this though,  I was using phpBB.  I had a mod that made the URLs look static.  The results when you search my domain name in Google was more that 130,000.

I switched to SMF on a recommendation about 10 months ago.  I love the software.  But!!!!!  The results on Google when you search my domain name now is about 4,000.

You won't believe how much Adsense revenue I have lost.  It used to be about $800 per month.  Now, it $50 or $60 per month.  I have the statements to prove it.

So, I do not believe you need to KNOW how Google does it.  You just have to do what works most of the time.  And I don't see any mod or pluggin for SMF that will even make a stab at it.

Quit thinking like a programmer.  Start thinking like a marketing person.  Users of SMF have something to market on their sites and SM has to improve the product to help them.

If they have to charge for the fix, so be it.  I will pay.  Just do it.  If something doesn't happen soon, I will pay to buy vBulletin.

phpBB and SMF have different url formats, so after converting, all of those 130000 indexed pages, aside from index.php, would be broken. Of course it is going to take time to build up an index again.

As a lot of the adsense relivency is on the domain name and the url as well as the content on the page, this hack will make ads more targetted and relevent.

I agree with you.  I wrote an error trap using the .htaccess file to rediret all the 404s caused by dead links in the phpBB folder to the front page of SMF.

It did not take 10 months to index the 130,000 on phpBB.  Within 60 days of applying their Mod I shot from something like 6 or 7 thousand to 130,000.

My point is that if there is a mod or maybe an unoffical hack that has the same effect on the URL or does the same thing Wordpress does with their links it just might do some good.

SMF is a fine forum package.  It's just, to some of us users, anything we can do to improve our status in any search engine index would be of great help.
