Hello.  I'm an administrator on a, as it currently stands, vBulletin forum.  However, the other admins. and I have recently decided to move to Simple Machines software.

What I would like to do is create a theme based on existing Babylon theme, but cannot figure out for the life of me how to create a copy.

Any help for this poor newbie would be greatly appreciated!

What do you want to change? Did you try looking at the theme site? There are many themes based off the Babylon theme. I'm glad you switched to SMF!! :)

I really like the theme's overall layout.  It's very similar to what our board looked like back in 2002.  I plan on changing colors, mostly, as well as -- of course -- images.  I'll probably shuffle some things around...  I'll look at the theme site.  Thanks very much!

Yeah, I can safely say that, so far, SMF is a lot better than vB.

Not even saying SMF is free and including what SMF2.0 holds. ;)

Haha, yeah, the 'free' part is a definite draw, as well.  =)

what made you decide to change?

Surely the decision cannot be based purely on the template? You can always make a new one.

Whilst I love and support SMF, for your forum, one of the worst things you can do is move over software. When I have done it in the past it has caused me to lose a LOT of members. you forum also has a pagerank of 4. This is great! moving to a new forum will lose that!

If you are adamant on moving to SMF i strongly suggest you atleast use a converter (http://www.simplemachines.org/download/?converters)

unless you are in financial trouble, i suggest you stay with your current forum and re-work the template (if you feel you need a new look)   :)

Not entirely true. For example yabbSE no longer has updates so there will be bugs and security issues.

Onto the actual subject.

If you wanna create a copy of the babylon theme, download the install package extract the babylon theme, zip it up (as something like babylon2) and then go Admin > Themes and Layout > Install from file and you'll install a duplicate of the babylon.

Which I think is actually a good idea since upgrading to a major release will require you to overwrite.

Ah, we are using a converter.  No worries about that.  Our entire database has been converted already, and we're working on re-establishing all of our custom usergroups and permissions.

The move isn't based purely on templates, either; easy editing is just the icing on the cake =P.  We've had, in the past, payment issues, so moving to free software is a definite plus.  That's the biggest draw, I think.

Thanks very much for all the advice and support, guys!  It's very much appreciated!! ^_^
