Question about adding a button via css

OK I am going to try and explain this as best I can. I am not too savvy on site building, but have managed to search and get my forum nearly complete with the exception of one thing. When I use the code I found here:

http://www.smfarcade.info/index.php/topic,2051.0.html

It adds a button here (see yellow arrow): http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d5/audiogodz1/stuff/button.jpg

That's the perfect spot for the button I want to use (even if it isn't where it was intended in the code). I know how to get the gif I want to use to display, but now the real question..... How do I make it link to another website url? (nothing on or related to the site)

I tried to do it and it really went haywire. I had to use the back button and edit out my change to get everything back. I'd rather ask you how to do it now.   I am pretty decent with HTML, but I do not understand css at all.

I just want to keep my Arcade button where it is NORMALLY (not in this screen shot) in the main menu by the logout button and stick something else over there on the left. If I can't achieve this I'll be forced to move the arcade button over which I don't wanna do.

This is basically a css question.

Cliffs- that code produces a button on the left of my site which must be linked to an "action". I just want to link it to an off site URL. HOW?

Still need help with this?

Basically in the <a href=" part, where you see ', $scripturl, ' or something similar, you would remove that part so the URL goes to exactly where you want.

Example:

<a href="', $scripturl, '?action=search">

The following could be made:

<a href="http://www.google.com">

Note, if I am off with what you want, it may be because the image you linked to no longer is there. ;)
