Hello,

Our Webmaster Jonny (www.jonny555.co.uk) has just installed the latest version of SMF (after his original software crashed).

On behalf of Jonny, would someone please tell us how to activate the Spell Checker facility?

Thanks very much,
Dybuk/Papi11on
(on behalf of the Amateur Watercolour Community site)

The spell check functionality requires Aspell to be installed on your server and configured with PHP.  I can tell you if you have it if you give me a link to a phpinfo.php.

What is phpinfo.php?

Thank you very much, Mr. Unknown, for getting back to me so quickly.

I've forwarded your contact details to Jonny.

Appreciatively,

Oh, a question on my behalf.  Haven't I got a helpful membership.

Spell checker is something I will get round to once I get my other problems out of the way.

Thanks Mr Unknown for your time.

I thought it was Pspell that need to beinstalled/ Is this not right.
SMF is telling me that spell check should work but when you try to us it you get a pop up with a white page. the URL for the site is hxxp:www.sscf.net [nonactive]
the URL for the php info page is hxxp:www.sscf.net/phpinfo.php [nonactive]

Any help you could give is great.

You need to install the english dictionaries, and if at all possible the newest version of Aspell (aspell and aspell-devel rpms.)

"This version"?  You mean on this forum?  It should be installed here.

You have to install the dictionaries for Dutch...

On my board I have installed the dictionaries for Dutch, and the default language setting is also dutch on the board.

But when I use the spellchecker, I also get english suggestions.

On my board that is......

Okay... what I'm asking is:

1. Are you able to use it properly here?
2. Are you sure you installed the right version of the dictionaries?
3. Does the attached script give any error messages?

1. I would have to try typing somethin gin English then and hit the spellchecker ;)
2. yes, both English and dutch are installed
3. no errors : http://www.salesplaza.nl/spell_test.php

@1. : Had to change english to English ;)  So that works, but in English.......

[Unknown]

If the test page I attached says English words are right, it's the Dutch dictionaries not SMF :P.

Trying in dutch :

Goed, als ik dit probeer te typen, dan kijk ik effen of het werkt.

Well : works here !!

[Unknown]

Strange.  It's installed normally here...?

Can you help? I can't get my spell checker to work either. I have the checkmark checked and when I read the ? it say's it appears pspell is not installed. I checked with my server provider and this is what he said.

Apsell is installed and up to date according to Yum

root@ace [/usr/bin]# yum update
Gathering header information file(s) from server(s)
Server: CentOS-3.3 - Addons
Server: CentOS-3.3 - Base
Server: CentOS-3.3 - Extras
Server: CentOS-3.3 - Updates
Finding updated packages
Downloading needed headers
No Packages Available for Update
No actions to take
root@ace [/usr/bin]#

root@ace [/usr/bin]# rpm -qa | grep aspell
aspell-devel-0.33.7.1-25.3
aspell-0.33.7.1-25.3
aspell-config-0.33.7.1-25.3
root@ace [/usr/bin]#

pspell is installed on the server.

root@ace [/usr/bin]# rpm -qa | grep pspell
pspell-devel-0.12.2-16.1
pspell-0.12.2-16.1
root@ace [/usr/bin]#
----------------------------------------------------------
Is there something else I need to do to get it to work? Something in a php file that needs editing?

You can go to my board at.   http://www.henryfordhighschool.com/smf/index.php [nofollow]  If you need admin access let me know.

Thanks so much,

Don
