PHP (Default) or SMTP Email Test Button

As this very topic is the bane of many a forum user perhaps it needs a more user friendly email sending analyses tool that might just cut down the number of repetitive posts in the forum!
I refer to a post http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=207901.msg1322153#msg1322153 A possible enhancement to the Server Settings/Feature Configuration would be an email connectivity test button; enabling users to test that everything works ok without having to send group emails or sign in as new members to test that activation emails do actually get sent.

Yes you guessed it, I'm having that very problem right now.

Good idea. But you can do it easily. Just select php mail function, and send one topic to yr email address! Next time use SMTP, do the same. Check which one works, use it

Yes that may well be, but to do that you have to leave the Configuration Menu, whereas if like in Outlook you can send a "test" email from right there where you are setting it up you would have some indication that it was successfully sent.
