Loads of Mod Ideas

I have loads of ideas for mods. Although I think they are good ideas, I don't necessarily have an interest in making them all or the time to make them.

So I thought I'd share SOME of them from my ideas list with that hope that other budding or willing mod creators may have a go at them.

Browser Detection
Like the browser K-Detection mod except
- Stores the browser per member not per post
- Shows the browser before the username in the whos online list (like you may have seen on other forums)

Project Honey Pot
- To stop the main spammers through project honey pots blacklist.

- Give a message that this topic is old, rather than bumping it, that it would probably be best to start a new topic.

Prevent Old topics - bumping
If a topic is older than X days, you can't post in it (even if its not closed)

Rainbow BBCode - I started this one, but am not so good with the math for converting hsv to hex to rgb RAINBOW

Display Name - limit usage of characters and length -> eregi ->
Just because users on my forum at least things its funny to have a username with copyright or trademark symbols in or have one thats 40+ characters in length and which distorts topic listing. (Edit: Basically reducing the 60 character max)

if you like to hide goodies, it can be useful.

Better Code tag with 'expand' 'select' 'copy to clipboard' links
(Smf code tag is so crap, at least in IE), always too small. [mod]

Dictionary/Thesaurus BBCode Infograbber
Grabs the dictionary/thesaurus entries for words from dictionary/thesaursus

Maps - places visited, recommended, where i want to go
Like the memberMap mod, except allows MULTIPLE pins, different colors based on where you want to go, places you recommend to visit.  I'm thinking of doing a period of travelling and have got a map on my board with some pins in where i want to visit.  I thought why not an smf map, then users could recommend places to visit/go

Email Inactive users
- not posted in x, not visited in y, with less than z posts
This one has been requested lots. I know theres a sort of feature for this in 2.0.  So for 2.0 it would probably easy to make this into a mod.  Its been on my list of ideas for months. Its just one which I've left to concentrate on other things.

Paypal automated donations bar
I've seen this on other forums and have wanted one for ages, again not enough time
Set a minimum donation request per month, show a bar on your forum of the percentage you've reached.

digg/social sites submit link
Theres lots of these, I know theres the digg mod, like that but for stumbleupon and all the others aswell. [mod]


I hope someone finds some of these inspiration for some mods.  They remain on my list (along with some others I haven't posted as I may have a stab at) so who knows, if they don't get made, maybe i will.

Thats default, and has been for a while.

We made it so that it's 60 characters maximum in 1.1 because there were people abusing it.

I think that Kirby made such a mod ''Browser Detection for online list'' along with a list of the guests divided into categories such as guests, msn spider, google bot, and so on, but I ain''t so sure
