Ability for forum to display subforum posts

Basicly, we run a trading area on a website which covers the different states and territories of aus... obviously they're quite a distance from each other so generally members only trade within their section... is it possible to divide the sections into their resepective subforums(eg for sale vic/for sale tas) etc, but still have it all show in the forum which is further up the chain?

Sounds like a good idea to be able to show topics in their parent.

Not exactly sure if this would be the best way to do it, but one way would be to create a new column in the topic's table, call it ID_PARENT, and each time a post is made, have the parent board ID stored for the topic. Just like it is stored inside the boards table. Then when it is time to load the posts, you can just change the call from t.ID_BOARD = $board to T.ID_PARENT = $board.

I don't have that much time to make this a mod right now, but hopefully someone can come in and pick this up and run with it.

This is exactly what I was here looking for... any luck on it happening? or anyone have a quick hack to do it?

I have a forum that covers many regions also and want people to be able to go directly to their region (subforum) but for those who just like to know what's going on to be able to see post within all the regions (subforums) when they go to the section (forum).

Although many like the idea so far noone has indicated wanting to create it.

IMO, I can tell you now that it won't be possible for a quick and easy hack.

It would require altering the db queries for many area and you've got to think about permissions.

I'm not too sure how many active smf mod authors would be capable of creating this mod.  (I'm not too sure if i could).  Which maybe a reason why noone has thus far taken it up.
