Is PostgreSQL support already available in the SMF 2.0 Beta 1?

karlbenson

Not fully functional. At the moment SMF are advising not to start a forum in PostgreSql.

Multi-database support, while operational in general, is not complete. The repair boards feature currently only works with MySQL and upgrade scripts have not been written for anything except MySQL at present. As such please do not start a production forum in PostgreSQL or SQLite until such time as support has been completed.

Is there an ETA for PostgreSQL compatibiity?

metallica48423

Not at the moment.

the database abstraction is not complete, compatibility code for postgresql is still being added.

That said Oldiensmann has been doing fantastic work in this area and the only area that doesn't work on Postgre that I'm aware of is now just the repair functionality. That said the interesting question will be how efficient searching is with it- something I cannot readily answer.
I'm only a half geek really...

This may very well depend on how PostgreSQL is configured.
A properly tuned PostgreSQL server is blazingly fast.
I pump tens of millions of inserts per day, while simultaneously retrieving and analyzing data, and it does not even feel loaded.
This may be something in which I ca help the development team.
I would very much like to help in getting PostgreSQL running smoothly.
I will become a charter member next week, and hopefully will be able to start testing the PG DAL.

karlbenson

Well nice to see you've become Charter already.

Is PostGreSql that much better than Mysql? Everything I've ever read said has been mixed Mysql vs Postgresql.
