hi friends i want to know weather smf stores the posts and topics in the mysql database or in the file..

why i am asking is my paid hosting provides........

MySQL 5.x Databases     Unlimited     Unlimited     Unlimited     Unlimited
MS SQL Database    Unlimited    Unlimited    Unlimited    Unlimited
MySql Disk space     25 MB    50 MB    75 MB    150 MB
MS SQL Database    5 MB    25 MB    50 MB    100 MB

Disk Space / Storage     500 MB     2000 MB     3000 MB     5000 MB
Data Transfer    5000 MB    20000 MB    30000 MB    50000 MB

Heki

It stores its data in the database. And you won't hit your transferlimits unless you have a lot of users. I don't really know for sure, but I have 30,000 page views per month, and it handles things fine.

Traffic Tip     ø per hour
Received    62 MiB    3,422 KiB
Sent    711 MiB    38 MiB
Total    773 MiB    42 MiB

I think I use around 12 MB of storage when it goes crazy :) (As crazy as it gets with 150 members..)

As for the Mysql goes, it stores on Database and creates tables & wont be effected by data transfer either unless u have a huge community ... for starters you have a decent pack... under that .... but your MySql disk space is just 25Mb ? .... thats really too less buddy.... you need to look around the web for better services... mine is unlimited as well ... and if asked about disc space... its around 25Gb ...

How can you store 25GB of text on a forum? I'd like to know how much SQL space and traffic this forum uses actually.

Douglas

Heki, an out of the box installation will use about 1 meg of space.  The more your forum grows, the larger the DB gets.  And yes, I do have SMF DB's that are nearing 2 gigs.

And those forums are over 2 million posts.

And also contain content for the main site, as well.

Okay, if you want to focus strictly on the forums...

my _log_topics DB is 220.8 Mb
my _messages DB is 1.3 Gb
my _personal_messages DB is 83.9 Mb
my _topics DB is 18.6 Mb

My non Forums related stuff (Content for the main site) totals less than 20 megs, which is impressive, considering that I have every football game in one table, dating back to the 1894 school year (not a typo).  Everything else is forum related.
