Can/should new registered members be assigned to a group?

Hi All,

When a new member self-registers, can or should they be automatically assigned to a member group of my choosing?

For example, I notice that the default two primary membergroups are Administrators and Moderators. So when if I do nothing, then when a new member self-registers they are effectively 'groupless'. I just created a new membergroup called 'Registered', and started moving members one at a time into this group, which raises the questions
1. Is there a setting which automatically shifts self-registered members into the group of my choice?
2. Are there permissions associated with a self-registered member who has *not* been auto or manually assigned to a membergroup? Are these just the 'post count based groups'?

Hope I'm making sense here. Comments anyone?

I would suggest renaming "Newbie" to "Registered" and you'll have basically the same effect.

At registration, members are in "Newbie" and "Ungrouped Members".
