i would reccommend trying various settings -- who is your host?  i'm wondering if this is really a host problem.  This one's got me stumped

Here's possibly a couple more clues about this.  I am again having problems with the login screens.

When I manually enter my pw into any pw box, it works.

When a browser auto-fills it, it doesn't, and goes to the Password Incorrect page.

On the login page where the prompts are in a box at screen center, no browser auto-fills that, so it always works.

I got the little login box at the top of the page to work (when auto-filled) in Firefox 2 by deleting all Private Data.

I still haven't got it to work in IE7.

I see this code for the little login box. Is the accept-charset significant, if the browser isn't sending utf8? (I don't know if it is or not, or whether IE7/FF differ.)

action="...login2" method="post" accept-charset="UTF-8"

Does this limit the name or pw length to 10? I guess probably not. My name and pw are both >= 10:

<input type="text" name="user" size="10" />
<input type="password" name="passwrd" size="10" />

Another possible complication:
I tried resetting my pw (to the same as the previous one), and it failed: my previous password that worked in 1.1.3 is apparently illegal under 1.1.4 because of a (new?, and good) requirement of both upper and lower case letters. So old pw's can be illegal, another reason they might not work?

In case it makes any difference, I have
Checked (On):
    Allow browsers to go back to cached pages
    Use database driven sessions

Unchecked (Off):
    Enable local storage of cookies
    Use subdomain independent cookies

Still trying things...

are you sure the password it saves isn't just actually wrong?

This would actually be a browser error

This is truly bizarre. It is something with IE7. It is aaalmost like it's storing password data in a case insensitive manner, at least it's consistent with that. So if the website doesn't test case (which many probably don't), no problem, but if it does: incorrect password.

I'm getting the same error at the Lunarforums forum (SMF 1.1.3), so it's not a 1.1.4 thing.

The password always works if I type it in. IE7 auto-fill is screwy. I use IE7 all the time and just never noticed it.

Edit: I should clarify that I find it hard to believe IE7 would really convert passwords to all upper or lower case before storing them, or would transmit them that way. It fills in other auto-complete textboxes correctly, with case preserved. However, it does seem to be doing something wrong.

When I change the password and have IE7 save that one, the length of the text it puts in the pw field the next time changes correctly.

Maybe auto-complete is using a different character encoding than what is used when the pw is typed directly.

Just instaled forum. It was well when I loget in for the first time. I made some topics and after I loged out the problems came again. I login from the top of the page but in the second atempt.  No problem if I login from the bottom of the page (the index.php). But I can not go to admin's panel/page (exept the first time)

Which browser are you using? Have you tried it in Firefox? Firefox is fairly easy to install and set up if you haven't got it already. If it works in FF, it would at least give you access to Admin. And would be evidence that it has something to do with the browser.

Does SMF prompt you for the Admin password and then tell you it's incorrect?

Since I can get to Admin as long as I type in the pw on the login screen, this is somewhat different from the issue I was having, but I'm still following this thread and will report if I find any solution.
