More new functions I'd wish to see

1. see your post in real time as you type it,
weather you're choosing a font or a color, or adding a picture
you can see the result as you're writing your post, much like in MS word (for example)
-This option should be controlled by admins, to be able to switch it on or off

2. admins could define the limit size of pictures and text in user's signatures
either by weight or pt,pixel size in width;height

3. maybe redefine the whole system so it would be more html friendly,
I have no knowledge of php, so if it was possible for me to change the layout
of the forum like any 6yo can do with  html, and add links, html iframe pages etc..
without php knowledge it would be a dream come true.
(I'm guessing this one is a long shot)

4. permissions, permissions, permissions -
we need more of control of them, for example:

- specific member permissions (yes I know this mod, it doesn't work for me)

5. Enable Admins to use censored words without being censored

6. be able to control the space for the forum's banner, add html, flash, or Iframe tag

7. be able to phrase a default welcome message to be waiting for a first time member

8. new upload manager, MORE FRIENDLY, vbulletin comes to mind...

9. nicks of a chosen group to show as bold fonts in the forums,
for example if admin chooses the groups: admins, globals, VIP's,
all users within that group would have thier nickname in bold fonts
in the forum's topics index (also maybe to be able to choose a certain color to each group)

10. allow admins the option to disable replying to old posts by defining the time to be considered "old".
only people with the permissions to do so will be able to add a reply to those posts.

*whew..* well that's my wish list,
let's see if any of it can come to be a reality

You can use the editor on these forums if you want to take a look. aka WYSIWYG editor. There are tons of new signiture options in smf2.0.

and 7 im not quite sure what you mean.

3. Unfortunately basic knowledge will always be required for templating.
To remove all the php from templates would remove 99% of smfs flexibility and turn it into any other old forum software.
4. Having specific permissions for each member would affect performance.
Membergroup permissions are the best way to control things. Create new membergroups if required.
Again you can't have permissions for absolutely everything. it will affect performance.
5. Sounds good.
6. If you need to alter the forum banner etc, it is easy enough to do via templates.  (though I wouldn't recommend using iframes)
7. Theres mods to send new users a welcoming email message or a welcome pm message already.
8. Some improvements I believe will be made to attachments/management for 2.0, but as yet I believe it isnt finalised/no details. (Vbulletin definately does NOT come to mind though)
9. Bold italics membergroups is a good idea. I've seen it raised before, but I probably see it more of a modification.
10. Isnt it in smf by default?  current smf?

This has been disscused before. It's only beta1 and should not be used in a live environment unless if you know what your doing. As far as I know you can use a demo of SMF1.1.

you can test 1. on here, because the wyiwyg editor canbe turned on via your profile.

Obviously I can't speak for staff, but it wouldnt surprise me if a demo forum was made eventually.  Its just this is the first beta, theres alot more to come before it gets to RC stage. Probably a couple more betas.

This has been disscused before. It's only beta1 and should not be used in a live environment unless if you know what your doing. As far as I know you can use a demo of SMF1.1.

I have 1.1.4, so really all I care about is to have a look at 2.0

Yeah at the momment you can't but your able to view screenshots/features from 'introducing smf2.0'

2.0 is charter members only.
I wouldn't count on seeing a 2.0 demo BEFORE 2.0 goes public (in some shape or form).

Although thats my own view/guess.

Since censoring is done at DISPLAY time (and can be turned on/off by the viewing user), this is not really realistic.
