Is it going to be there? I see this functionality in Proboards, Invinsion, all the other forum things but it isn't a default here. I tried the mod that was made for it but it has problems that make it a pain to use.

bookmarking?

you mean social bookmarking or bookmarks/favourites of fav topics within smf?

There are 2 mods for the second version and I've just submitted a mod for the first one to SMF (with a 1.0 and 2.0 version)

H

Bookmarking is not a default feature in SMF 1.1.x or 2.0.x however there are mods for bookmarking :)

I believe it should be a default feature and not just a mod. For more then a couple of reasons. 1. Sometimes you have to wait for the mod to be updated to work with the forum. I know there is the whole thing where you trick it into running the mod but that is also dangerous. 2. I have also heard people talk about using SMF but they say no to it because it doesn't have bookmarks as a default and they think that installing the mod would be to much of a hassle. 3. We all know how us Humans are getting lazier and lazier by the day. It would not only benefit the SMF users but SMF itself when it comes to publicity.

@Karl: I meant the ability to bookmark topic/threads within the forum.

@H: Thanks for saying, this I already knew though.

@ Both: Also, if you will look you will see there is problems with the mods. Aarons doesn't have instruction on how to place the button correctly I believe I tried it once but had to uninstall it because it didn't work correctly.

There are lots of mods which would improve things for some users. However lots of these would only be used by the minority.

Installing mods is really not a hassle in SMF. A few clicks and the mod is installed :).

When you previously installed Aaron's mod were you using the default theme?

True, but there are usually few changes once a released version is out, so mods that worked on 1.1.3 should work fine on 1.1.4.

How so? If the installation check fails, you shouldn't install a mod anyway. That is a guideline if it works for your current version or you are emulating a version number. If the install is clean when emulating, the mod should work without incident.

Topic notification marking can be used as bookmarks, and you get notices if those items are updated.

Is it really a good idea to promote SMF as "the forum software that lets people grow lazy"?  :P
