Another of my mods had a good idea. To help keep tabs on potential troblemakers, it would be very handy if there was an option to "subscribe" to a user.

That is, when they post, you get notified. That way you won't "miss" a post that may require mod attention.

Could be an admin only option, or better yet, a permission to be applied to the appropriate member groups.

i was actually just gonna suggest this...

very nice!

Hmmm... Interesting...

Might make for a great mod.

It should just be an add in feature with the next release of smf.  In phpBB, it is known to be used as "digest mod."  What it does is to subcribe users the threads they post.  They have the option in subscribing it or not.  Vbulletin has that same option for users.  (I believe it is not a mod with vbulletin.)

I have been to many other forums and many users like to be updated with their threads every day, week, or month.  I know that if there is such thing for users to subscribe. it will be awesome to use.  I like to have this in the next release if someone can come up with that addition.

yexusbeliever, that's already available here.

What they're asking is to be able to subcribe to a user, not a topic, to monitor him.

A simple way to do it with what's available, would be to bookmark their last posts page in profile and remember to check it frequently.

Sorry to mispresent my thoughts.  What I meant to point was that in phpBB there is an option of users getting an email daily, monthly, or weekly, to the topics they subscribe to.  I am currently using smf and do not see to have that.  I do get the reply notification thru email, but not a subscription of topics all sent in one email.

However I know that this will be a great mod.  I like to have it if someone can come up with it.

I have not seen that option on phpbb :-\

I think this is a great idea, would be useful for many boards, including boards for games (say clan boards :P) to keep tabs on those "trouble makering" people.

It is called "email digest mod."  You can check it out here: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=187868 [nofollow]

I love phpBB, but sadly after all the mods added in it can be slow for dial up users. Not just that, I always have a very hard time trying to install mods.  There are some mods that may take up to 3 hours.  I like something to be fancy yet simple - Simple Machines.  Email Digest Mod is one of those complicated mod to install.

That's why SMF has a package manager - it does all the work so you don't have to :)

Thanks.  Even phpBB has something like that which is called "easymod," but not all mods are compatible to theirs.  And I can tell that phpBB is less stable than SMF.

I like something to be just simple to work with.  That is why I like SMF.

Anyways, I did not see the package manager.  I check in the mod section for download and did not see it.  Can you attach it here or point it somewhere I can download it??

Mike Bobbitt

Package Manager is under the main Administration Center heading of your admin page...

My goodness!  It is far too too too easy to install these mods.  It is so easy that I am even shock!!!!

This is actually a notably useful feature, for example if someone wanted to get a lot of email they could watch me :P.  Kidding.

Though, if you had a troublesome user... maybe you'd want not to get an email for EVERY post? (think: homie's speed of posting :P...)  Perhaps it would make more sense to be notified on the member's next post?

For example, say a very notable member (hello, Alienine!) disappears suddenly... you might want to "watch" for his or her next post, to see when they come back.  Just as another example.

Sure, any ability to monitor a user would be very useful...

ms_ukyankee

I was going to suggest something similar, I've certainly wished that I could view a log of a users actions, but this would be very handy too.
SMF since 2004 <3

This sounds like something I'd definitely be interested in.
The boards I'm running are currently pretty quiet, for a number of reasons, but as and when they 'hopefully' pick up, this would be really handy.

Bump.  This would really be a good tool.  Whatever happened?
