How do I change the banner on website?

I am new here and i can't figure out how to change the banner on my website. I am using the tolkien theme for my guilds website. I want to change the banner so it has our guild name in it instead of the default one. Is there anyway i can do this? Thanks for any help.

see if admin > current theme > header logo URL works.  If that theme doesn't support it, you'll have to manually edit the index.template.php.  The theme author can help you more with that

From what i can tell this theme doesn't support a header logo URL. How do i find out who the author is? At the bottom of my site it says. Tolkien designed by bloc. I take it bloc is the author. But how do i get intouch with him. Sorry for all the questions.

Bloc is the Author, But if You want to change the banner you can either:
#Edit the template
#Change the image.

Can You give us a Link of your site? In that way I will be able to tell the logo's image.

On another thread someone told me i need to change the top.jpg and  left.jpg in the img folder. But didn't tell me how to find them.  I didn't download this theme it was already on the forum. I didn't set up the forum either a friend did. I am an administrator and have access. Can someone please help me.

Okay i just need to know how i edit this. I made a new logo. I just need to know how i put the new logo in place of this old one.

overwrite it with a new image of the same name?

you use an FTP client to connect to your server and upload the files.  Some hosts also have a file manager that you can use to upload or modify files. 

Your host can provide you with specific information on how to connect to FTP or use their file manager.

I guess i have to know the host of my site. I didn't set it up so i have to have my friend who set it up either let me know the host or overwrite the file for me. Thanks for your help.

I been thinking. Do i need to have smf installed on my PC to make changes to the theme or is that not necesarry?

It is not necessary. All you need is the theme files you are changing.

Thanks to metallic i know the file i need to change i just not sure how to overwrite it. I know the FTP. I just don't know how to access it
