how do i start my own forum?

1) First find a hosts (You should look at Hosts and Hosting
2) Than you need to install SMF in easy words. (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=2.0;sort=subject)

OR
you can always try a multi forum SMF service such as www.smfforfree.com but they puts limits on some of SMF features.

I just started my first forum a week ago.  I bought a hosting package from Godaddy.com.  On there they have an installer that automatically installs SMF for you... all point and click no computer savvy necessary.  In two minutes it was set up and running.  It installed SMF 1.1.3 and when I opened the forum it told me I should upgrade to the latest version 1.1.4 and gave me a link to click on to do that, and in less than a minute I was up to date and running.  Very easy.
