Character Count for posting for user

Hi

Is it possible to add a bit of code in the right place to allow users to know when they are getting to the forums' permmitted maximum number of characters posting size? I have restricted the number of characters to avoid people making rediculously long posts - but some users are complaining that when they go to post, they loose everything if it is too long. I hope you understand the sort of thing I have in mind. An indication of the post length - something like 'post too long, 7900 characters out of a possible 7500 (that's the number I've chosen) used - press the back button in your browser or click below to edit' in the post too long error message might be an easier and useful way to start. An on-going count would be better - 'like 700 characters used out of 7500'

Anyone any suggestions?
