i see similar questions but not axactly the same

i wanna transfer all my data (posts, user profiles, stats ect...)

from a recent install of 1.1.4
to a new install of 1.1.4

they both are default theme

do i backup then restore?
i know where to backup  but where do i restore?

Are the installs on the same server? If so, you  can just change the database settings to match.

For a different server, or if you just want a second copy, you can use a SQL import tool like the one in phpMyAdmin, BigDump, or the restore script posted here on the forum.

hmm  i tried but i dont really know what i am doing with phpMyAdmin

i get corrupted files errors alot and it does nothing

what i want is just to carry over the users/posts and board tree, and private messages (not a big deal)

those 4 thinbgs are all i need but it wont let me do just thay

and gives me alot of errors due to the gallery and such

is there any way i can manually cut and paste their files into the proper places?

and if so what files and where?

are you just trying to clean your current install or move your current install?  If either of those -- the way is much simpler.

i have a forum and i am using SPortal
i kinda screwed it

i made a new one nearly exactly the same
except the interface for the Chatroom work correctly this time

i wanna transfer all the member profiles and avatars (if possible)
amd posts/structure
the rest is not needed
actually it is already there

gallery/chatroom/TP and the rest of the stuff
i just need the member stuff/ and stats

why not just download the large upgrade package for your version of smf, extract it on your computer, delete the upgrade.php, and upload the remainder of the files over your current files?

That will give you a 'virgin' install of SMF and maintain your posts and data -- So long as Settings.php isn't overwritten -- but the large upgrade package does not contain this file -- but back it up first anyways

well...
like i said there was a problem with the forum

si i did what you said and now it is down and i cant get it back...yes i did make a backup

but it wont take either
it says there is an error
so i think i am screwed

this is what it says

Updating and creating indexes...
Unsuccessful!

This query:
ALTER TABLE smf2_smileys
ORDER BY LENGTH(code) DESC;
Caused the error:
You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'LENGTH(code) DESC' at line 2

metallica48423

you don't need to run upgrade.php... but since you'll get this error while managing smileys as well.... this doc outlines how to fix both issues.

http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=1079.msg2548#msg2548

you'll probably need the second fix (the one below the mysql versions list)
