Problem Upgrading from smf 1.07 (1.08) to 1.14

I have smf 1.08 (upgraded from smf 1.07) and would like to upgrade to 1.14.  I am on a server that uses cpanel and provides no direct ssh access.  My server has Fantasico, which claims to provide an upgrade path to 1.13, but when I ran it, the resulting smf would only give me a "database error" and told me to contact my administrator -- which is me!  The package manager provides no upgrade option, and the smf admin page provides no option either, after giving one from 1.07 to 1.08.

Is there a way to do this given the constraints of cpanel?

Alternatively, I did a clean install of 1.13, which I was easily able to upgrade to 1.14 using the package manager. My thinking was that I could just import the old data -- the board hasn't seen much traffic, and doesn't have many users -- into the new 1.14 version which runs fine.  But I notice in phpMyAdmin that the table structures have changed between 1.08 and 1.14, so I can't just move them.  Is there a way to import the old 1.08 board into a new install of 1.14?

Thanks for any input!

Yes, you can import the database  of the old 1.08 board into a new install of 1.14 but afterwards you must upload the upgrade.php and the 2 upgrade.sql files from the large 1.1.4 upgrade package, to the forum folder and run the upgrader. So the db would be upgraded to the latest version

Or you can upgrade your forum manually

why not just download the large upgrade package and upload its entire contents to the folder where SMF resides? If you use the install package Settings.php will get overwritten (you do NOT want this)

instead of worrying about backing up and restoring just use the large upgrade package -- then in your browser point yourself to your boards -- you'll get an error (probably about a.attachmentType or something along those lines) --  then instead of going to index.php, go to upgrade.php -- follow the steps -- when its done your board should be upgraded

Thanks for the information.  It was a bit of a chore to get all the upgrade files in the right place, but that's mostly because at home all I have is dialup (I live in a remote spot).  Once they were finally there, and chmod'ed as specified in the manual, it worked fine.

Thanks again!  I'm not sure I could have figured it out without your input!
