Using "News" to create a promotionanl image banner

I have been experimenting with using the "news" section in our forum to effectively create a promotional image banner. The images fade in and out and simply keep repeating at a rate set in the control panel. I'm not really sure that that this feature was ever intended for this purpose or not (probably not) but, it does seem to work reasonably well with a few slight glitches.

The first glitch is that when you arrive at the page, the forum template "hiccups" until all the images have scrolled past one time. After that, it plays very smooth.

The second glitch is that "wide screen" users find the forum hiccpus from side to side (constant).

Is there a way for me to modify the default code to get past these problems or can some one suggest a script that I could use to insert into a "block". We have Blocs installed, it just that the news section provides me with exactly what I'm looking for aside from the glitches.

can i ask if yo9u are using bb tags to do this?

Yes I am. Just the same as inserting an image into a thread.

Yeah try instead of BBcode, HTML for each image element.

Also I wouldn't recommend any fixed image over 900px in width to cater for those at 1024X768 resolutions (which is still a very common screen resolution).

Thanks Rumbaar!
That seems to have helped. I haven't altered the size of any images yet but, It appears the "hiccup" is gone. Viewing the forum on a wide screen laptop (1280 x 800), everything looks fine and is centered using Explorer. Using Firefox, the image is off centered and "out of the frame" slightly. Is there a way for me to mod the script in one of the forum files to correct this?

Firstly you might want to still keep in mind 1024X768 (Browser Display Statistics) is very common viewing resolution.  A mindful web designer should always be mindful of their audience.  That little rant out of the way.

The fact it's out of the frame and off-centered is most likely due to it's size and the accurate way FireFox renders the images.  It will have to do with padding, etc.  If you had an image that was smaller than the viewable size it should render correctly.  IE is a funny beast.

Thanks again Rumbaar!
I found that If I narrowed the image slightly, the "out of frame" issue was resolved and also appears "centered" with Firefox in "widescreen" viewing. I have since adjusted the  scrolling setting from 90% to 100% to allow for the wider images. The banner is working flawless now. As far as 1024 x 768 resolution, I agree with what you suggest, however, a large number (possible majority) of our members use large screens with high resolutions for gaming purposes. For that reason, I'm not really all that concerned about the smaller resolutions.
I do how ever take that into consideration on my PC Help forum.

Thanks again!

You're welcome, glad you got it working to your requirements.

Yeah if the majority of your members are using higher resolutions then it's fine to cater to them, enjoy.
