I'm one of the admins over @ Chex Quest Fan Forums.  We're currently using Invision Free, and keep running into inconveniences and problems.  Our board has so much history and many memories with it, and we want to move the posts over to a Simple Machines board.  I'm hoping you guys could help get us started.

I keep reading about both crawlers and converters.  Could you guys please tell me which one is the easiest to use, and how to use it?  Also, what exactly would carry over?  Would member names carry over as well?

First try to get a database backup from your host. Invision free uses IPB 1.3 and we do have convertors that software.

Alrighty.  I think I can get my hands on that.  Which converter do you recommend?

Converters are found on this page

You would use Invision 1.3 converter to convert from invisionfree

Last I knew, InvisionFree charges for backups, and they are usually very difficult to get (they don't like losing people).

Yes, as far as I know, the back-ups cost $50.
