What's best system/application to charge membership fees on my forum?

I have a guy who is putting together my forum on 1.1.4.  He's doing great.  He probably knows the answer to my question, but I thought I'd do a little extra research.


I'm looking for a way to charge me members.

I will have members who can sign up (on the forum) for 1) a free membership, 2) a mid level membership $10 mo. and 3) premium membership $15 per month.  They need to be able to sign up and choose one of the premium memberships upon sign up.  They also need to be able to upgrade from the free memberships to the premium memberships at any time.  They will be signing up for automatic payment every month, minimum of one year subscription.

Are there tools available for this kind of thing?  Is there a range or products for this?  Is it expensive?

PayPal would be a fine merchant for me.

I'd like to check the example, but the http://www.simplemachines.org/community/subs/ipn.php link in the http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=413 link you provided shows me a blank screen.  Also, is this still beta?  Are there other mods/applications to do this?  Does it matter that I am operating in a TP?

You're getting the blank screen because you can't access the ipn.php file directly. We do use the mod on this site for Charter Member subscriptions and it works quite well. I am not aware of another mod to do this. It doesn't matter that you're using TinyPortal as it's a mod for SMF and uses SMF's registration system.
