Hi, new to this whole thing..i need help

I am trying to update my forum version through the "Package Manager" under Forum Control in ...however, i keep getting this error message: "The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF."

what should i do to update the forum to latest version without losing all the threads?
im also having trouble with installing add-ons...says like "2: fopen() [<a href='function.fopen'>function.fopen</a>]: SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 584 is not allowed to access"

What version of SMF are you running and what version do you want to upgrade to?

For the SAFE MODE error I would try contacting your host and see if they can disable safe mode for your account cause that can cause some problems.

it looks like the safe mode is restricting fopen.  you'd have to contact your host on this one, unfortunately
