Hi,

I'm getting the following message when trying to connect to my forum at http://www.expertbettingadvice.co.uk/forum/index.php

Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

Anyone know how to remedy this?

Thanks

This could mean that your host is down, that your password is wrong, or a few other things...

I would ask your host.

Chiz,

Please start new topics for new requests.

I recommend you try repair_settings.php to make sure it can find the settings.  If it can, it may mean that your forum is simply locked in maintenance mode - this can also be changed with the mentioned file.

What is repair_settings.php?

flippedcracker

i'm not sure why, but it happened on my server last night. i tried using repair_settings.php and it didn't work. it didn't save any of the settings that i had changed. the only way i was able to fix the problem was i had (for some reason unknown to me) a Settings_bak.php file on my server. i copied all the info into the regular Settings.php and file and it was all fixed.

the problem was caused by Settings.php not having any info in it after the cookie line.

just for informations sake, any idea what would cause that in the first place?

Most likely, a server problem or crash.
