thanks for the quick response!  but please forgive the newbie-ness, but I follow where the editing needs to be done, but what context would the link need to be in?  I am sure it is not as simple as I am thinking... like html. 
what would the code be for the link?

and action=chat is available in smf1.1.4
we cannot have normal descriptive links as in html websites in this version.
