Welcome page to 'member only' forums?

Is there a way to have a welcome page on the forum so that guests don't get the 'please log in' message and so on?

So far I've used Tiny Portal for this, but that uninstalled some mods which I now can't install anymore, and Tiny Portal adds a lot more then what I need, which is just a simple welcome page, that explains a bit about the forum, and welcomes people to join it.

I think this may help you, have a read on SSI FAQ.

That didn't quite help me at all, I didn't see anything related to what I was looking for.

Sorry it didn't help, but if done correctly ssi would allow what you want.

I figured that, but I don't want to even attempt editing things or making things, I don't know a thing about php or anything so i'd only screw it up >>

I would have thought more people would have ran into this problem(the original problem), but heh...
