How to change a theme.

Hi, Happy new year firstly!
I shall start from square one. I am sorry if this is the wrong forum section, I am fairly, well very new to this side of the net.
I have given admin status on a particular site. I know very little of the technical side of the net, but I am very interested in changing the theme of the site as it is bland at best.

1) is it a difficult task to achieve?
2) does this forum/site offer themes for use?

not difficult to add a new theme...   but you will have to manually apply any mods that you have installed (or install in the future).

ok, I have DL-d 2 new themes and opened up the admin panel on the site in question, I tried opening a theme by using the browser option but I am not sure which file to open (the file labelled style,index template or the theme info?) , and then what to do next!!! lol, is there a step by step guide on how to do this as I did a search on your site and couldn't find anything of the sort.
