Preserve old links to merged topics

I have some topics that I'd like to merge together. However, some of them receive a lot of incoming traffic from search engines, etc. If I merge them, some of those old links are going to become dead (returning a board error).

Is it possible to write a mod that would redirect the URLs from any old pre-merge topics to the newly merged super-topic?

I've create something like that some weeks ago.

I will pack it together and release it in the mod system , it can be handy.
