Any chance we'll see one of these for this package?

Regards

Grudge

I would have no idea what that is. If it's a bridge into a portal then you should probably post about it on the portals board, if it's a converter then use the converters board. This board is only for actual *features* of the software, not for getting the software to work with other vendors software. If I've confused the request please excuse me!
I'm only a half geek really...

Hi Grudge,

The name is confusing. It's a forum software that recently went belly up. I've been looking for a way out of it with no luck so far. I tried here because I found someone running a support board for DP users that were left in the cold, but that place is not active. So I followed the link here since they use this software.

I'd hate to start from scratch, but darn it that's how it's looking at this point.

Speak to Douglas, he converted his DP site to YaBB SE, if you can get hold of the convertor he used you should be able to goto YSE and onto SMF.
Liverpool FC Forum with 14 million+ posts.

Thanks a Bunch Ben. I'll look into that and PM him I guess.

Appreciate the quick responses.

Douglas

I just looked and cannot find the converter that was used to convert from DP to YaBB SE.  We may have to get [Unknown] involved to see if he can locate the converter he did for me.  I thought I had it, however, once I got off of DP (Best decision I ever made, to be honest), I removed the converter.  IF I can find it, I'll attach it to this post.

Appreciate you taking the time to look.

I've tried vB3's converter which fails.

I tried the SMF converter from vB3 to SMF but it fails as well. I can use the SMF to vB3 converter, but I'd lose 6 months on the forums. Not a big deal. If this is being developed I'd be glad to try and help get it working.

Thanks.

Is it possible to get a DB dump?

Sure, but I got through the vb3 to SMF conversion. The fatal errors were with the  Deluxe portal to vB3 converter from vbulletin.  So I didn't get to use my current DP DB, I have to use the old backup from 6 months ago which is a native vb3 DB.

If ya need it though let me know. I'm almost done setting up a new forum and deciding if I should just move to SMF today.

Kirby

Can I have it anyway? I'll give a shot at making a converter for other people who need it :)

noppid

I'm not clear which DB you're interested in. I thought you were an SMF developer.

I really don't want to give my DB out for obvious reasons.

Kirby

The Deluxe Portal DB... Thats fine if you don't want to.

noppid

Well let me know which DB ya wanted and I can change all the emails and passwords to generics. There are no secret posts.

noppid

We're cross posting.  :D

I'll make a copy of the DP DB for ya.

I wanted the DeluxePortal DB if thats possible...
By the way - I don't need all of the user data - if you can just get me one user from it and tell me if the passwords are encrypted or not (you can change them, I just need to know if they're encrypted)a

EDIT: thanks!

noppid

Let me know how if ya got an ETA on this. If it's gonna be in the near future I'd like to wait and open my forums when I can do a full import instead of losing 6 months.

Thanks and regards

Kirby

Well I already got a LOT of things working - members, categories, topics, messages... Still left:
instant messages
polls
correct board/subboard placement

noppid

wow, you don't waste time!

If I can help in any way please holler. I appreciate it!

Kirby

Nothing much to help with - its going along quite nicely.... if I don't get it by tonight I will try my best to get it out tommarow since I have to leave in about an hour.

noppid

Tomorrow would be fine then. Thanks again. Look forward to it.

[Unknown]

If I remember right, Deluxe Portal's conversion was fairly straight forward.  I wrote it back when for Douglas, and... well, it wouldn't work for the current version of SMF anyway.  I think he had me convert to YaBB SE, too, but I'm not sure.

Such a surprise it went belly up..... after the problems Douglas was having :/.

There was alot of good to be said about the way things were done in DP, but I dunno how well it did on a large forum.  My wife says this looks better with our colors anyway and we're glad we found SMF. As soon as Kirby helps me out with the converter it will only be an hour or so before we are live on SMF and retire DP.

Thanks

I'm not saying it was that bad, actually.  I remember poking around in the admin center, and a few other parts... and it didn't look bad, and it had quite a few features.  Some people really did work very hard on it, and not for nothing either.

The problem I saw Douglas have was not only load (it was causing him horrendous server load problems) but more importantly the support he was given.  It just didn't seem, from my understanding of it, to be what it should be.

Wizard2005

Ahhhh....

So would a quicker route be to convert Dp to Vb and then to SMF or is that just asking for problems ?

[Unknown] has done his job, he has sent his cleaned up version to me. I need to test it and respond to him (sorry for the delay!)

Wizard2005

Quoteo.0 why are you sorry for that?

Cos it looks like I'm the only one needing this conversion (well posting about it) and I'm sure that you and unknown have other more pressing things to.

However I am very gratefull for your attending to this for me, as I'm eager to convert the 9,361 threads and 50,498 posts. :)

Please test the attached.  It's not complete, but I'd like to see how it runs for your installation as current.
