live news or feeds. can anyone explain me how to use?

How I can add for example live news from other sites to add in a block of code?
I  can do this with rssFeed? I don't know how this rssfeed works can anyone explain me and tell me some advantages or disadvantages(maybe high loading times?). How kind of info can used this way? texts with the news or just links to the other sites?. thanks
