Parent categories and item quantities in child categories

I'm in the process of putting a community portal together and noticed something strange in the way category listings operate in SMF Gallery, Links and Classifieds.  Since this anomaly occurs with all of these mods, I'm assuming it must be something global that's responsible.

In each of these mods, you can create categories for items or postings, as well as child categories.  When you go to the front page for the mod, say, your "links" front page, you see just the parent categories listed.  Along with that listing, there's a quantity of items contained in that parent category.  However, the quantity doesn't reflect the number of items in the child categories.

So if you have a parent category called "Auctions" (as opposed to items for sale for a fixed price), a visitor to the page sees the Auction category with apparently zero items in it.  If they click through to the child categories, each has the appropriate quantities listed there.

It makes far more sense for the parent category quantity to equal the sum of all items in the child categories.

I've muddled my way through tweaking custom themes and some other stuff, but not a major code monkey by any means.  Anyone have a clue how to straighten this out?

Thanks!

Admin > Boards > Settings.

Check "Count child's posts in parent's totals"

Note though the actual posts in child forums won't show up in their parents.

Ah, thanks so much!  I'm gladly willing to feel a little dumb for a simple solution ;)

Much appreciated,
Matt

No worries.
Thats what we are here for.

Its not that dumb.  Your not the first person to ask, and I doubt you'll be the last.
