New Unread Thread

Just now, member of my forum requesting for new unread thread.

I told him that there is a link to "View the most recent posts on the forum."

But he reply this:

anyway, we still need a link for "new unread thread"
& the "recent posts" link includes the read posts. It simply put posts based on the time posted.
we need a dedicated "unread new posts" linked to our username.


anybody understand what he really want?

There are actually three links

Recent Posts (View the most recent posts on your forum) which the user is correct, is done an a time based.

However in the header of your forum you will also see two links
Show unread posts since last visit.
Show new replies to your posts.
These links are done on a PER-USER basis with the information as to which topics have been read (and where you've read upto inside existing threads) are stored in the database.

"Show unread posts since last visit." means any new topic or topic with new unread replies.
"Show new replies to your posts." means replies to topics which you started or have posted in.

BTW 2 questions:

When I choose "Show unread posts since last visit" or "Show new replies to your posts" it list all posts as suppose to be (new).

#1 But if I click Mark all post as read it only works for the page I am.  So if there are more than 1 page of new posts it only mark as read those post from the page I am. (here in this forum it mark all posts...)

#2 When I return to my home page new post are still there, in bold characters, so I have to mark them read again...

Any suggestion?  Thanks.

#1 As far as I'm aware Mark All Posts Read should mark them ALL read, not just a single page.
#2 Again I've not had that issue.
Once you mark them as read it should mark them all as read.

1. Are you using a cache software on your server?
eg eaccelerator

2. Is it showing you the cache from your browser and not getting a fresh copy.
(next time you try it, and you go back to the home, hit CTRL+F5 and see if it forces to get a new copy)

F5 or CTRL+F5 does not change it.  Still the problem...

can you provide a link to the forum where its occuring?
And a test username and password so i can check it out for myself.
