Hello everybody. Merry Christmas and a Simple Machined New Year to u 2!  :)

I run several Invision 1.3 boards with MyIBPortal 1.2 as portal-layer.

I will move to Mambo with SMF. I'm moving to a new host with more
webspace and as I just found out with Plesk to manage it.

And an auto-install for Mambo! I already installed Mambo and SMF. I will start working on the bridge in the next days and then run the Invision 1.3 convertor to SMF.

I was wondering. I am not the only one in this boat. Please reply when you did the same thing or are about to do the same thing. Moving from Invision 1.3/MyIBPortal to Mambo/SMF.

Happy to be here, great to know I have options to migrate!

Kevin's site does not have "NO IBPORTAL SUPPORT EVER" plastered all over the place, I am going to assume the best :)

Merry Christmas to you as well [Unknown].  8) (Can tell which holiday someone celebrates over the Internet)

I'm gonna see how far I can take my project before my head explodes  :o
I think the hardest part for me will be creating the 'PHP blocks' for it for the people not so knowledgable of PHP.

It's changed some since you last saw it. It's more of a framework builder than a portal. I guess I can call it that. It's hard to describe. Engine maybe?

I am putting the pieces in there for whomever wants to use this where updates will not have to be made for new features to be added, including using it on future discussion boards. Invision Power Board and SMF are currently running the same base code on my test area. Skin/Template files of course have to be different but the base code itself is all the same. Makes integration both easier and harder for me  :o but I think this will make my life a whole lot easier in the long run.

Expanding the feature set is more like dropping a 'plugin' file in place that gives more features to the admin. A perfect example is the latest plugin I did for the Invision Power Board area. An external (not part of actual base code) include file is simply dropped into place and the end-user gets all the IP Dynamic Lite 'blocks'. No need for me to have to recode all those functions and stick the PHP code within new blocks.

I think this approach to 'addons' is best in the long run but only if there is a community out there willing to create these as well. I only have so many hours in the day where I can do any type of work on this.

And then again, this is just a hobby of mine and I receive no compensation whatsoever. Abuse from others, yes.  Some people don't understand this and feel like they deserve immediate attention on something they received for free.

So [Unknown], to sum up this long winded reply ...

I am continuing to work on this project but I am not pushing it whatsoever. I see many other great portal options here so the SMF community has a great choice on what to use. and I wish them all the best. As far as MyiBPortal ... if they want to try it then by all means they can in the future. If it does not meet their needs then so be it. It cost them nothing.

Merry Christmas to you and yours and to great success in your SMF project.

:)

Merry Christmas to you too Kevin. And great to hear you are willing to pursue you project again. In fact, it was your first project that inspired me to start my own little portal/cms idea. Time will tell if it will be any good.  ::)

Anyway, I know yours will be. It was already last time, and looks no worse now by your descriptions/ideas here. :)
