Hey guys, i'm from www.thehobbylounge.com [nofollow] , and I have this terrible issue of not being able to install packages  because of permissions /chmod through ftp.. is there ANY work around for SFTP and being able to connect to FTP thru SMF at all? I appreciate any suggestions at all!!

Are you trying to install via the Package Manager and getting errors/issues.  What exact happens when you try to install a mod this way?

Yes. I try to install a package that has been uploaded already in a tar.gz, and although I apply recursive 777 permissions in the package folder via ftp, it says that the permissions are not right and I have to put in my ftp info so it can fix them.

I put in my ftp info via port 22, and it does not function.

Rumbaar

Have you tried the fix_permission file in the Package Manager sticky?

I've tried some fix, but I don't think it was this one. I've looked around for fix_permission, and can't find it. Do you think you could link me to it? Thanks so much :)

Admin -> Packages -> Options

Change "Server name" to ftps://ftp.yoursite.com (replace "ftp.yoursite.com" with the actual address of your FTP server)
Change "Port" to 22

Click "Save"

The ftps:// tells SMF to use a secure connection :)

Hey there, thanks for the advice. Unfortunately when I go to install an uploaded package, it asks for the info again, and when I put it in (look at the picture), it just goes back to that page.. no luck :'(

What could be going on?

Hello

I have an similar problem. My server doesnt accept FTP. It uses only SSH instead. I cannot install any package from webinstall.

I am trying to install a package but it requires the chmod from some files. I just dont know what file is (if I do, I would chmod then manually using WinSCP). I tried an recursive chmod 777 on my forum but the problem persists.

Can I configure the options to use SSH instead of  ftp?

thanks

SSH/SFTP takes a special PHP module (not usually installed, requires PHP5) and different programming, so it isn't an easy thing to modify at all.

Some hosts require 775 or 755 permissions to operate correctly. You can try that as well. If that doesn't work, the owner of the SMF files can be changed to the webserver user, which will fix the problem in most cases.

Hello mitoko

Thanks for the answer!

How I discover what exact files the module requires to change the permission? Its a module for SEO in board that I am trying

青山 素子

You can dig into the mod format, or just change the permission on all the files in the sources and themes directory temporarily.
