I guess I'm a Admin Newbie, but after nearly four hours trying to setup a user as the forum moderator with permissions to delete members, (other than Admin), and control the content, I HAVE FAILED.

After I setup a guy as a Moderator, no tab or menu selection appears that would allow him to do the above functions.  I have set the permissions to enable these abilities, but there IS NO WAY for the moderator to access them.

Can anyone give me a link that would help. The SMF doc on Admin does not seem have the answer.

Which permissions have you granted this group?

I thought I had explained that my question is about the Moderators access to the features I have already given him permissions to.  The problem is that when the moderator logs in, there is no menu items to give him access to the abilities I have given him to delete members, for just one instance.   Hope this helps. . .

As far as i can remember the 'delete member' option is a profile option -- not an admin option -- as in, it will allow them to delete the member via that member's profile.

BlackMage,

Thanks, but check the function yourself, you can delete ONLY your own account.   Even after setting permissions allowing the Moderator to not only delete other accounts, but also several other member management functions, the SMF 1.1.4 program does not provide any menu selections which would allow the Moderator to do his job!!   I wonder if the "Global Moderator" is provided any extra menu items, like is done for the Admin position???

Thanks for all for the helpful comments.  I have discovered that the Moderator is just a title and to get any additional permissions, the Global Moderator position must be assigned.  Then you will get the "Admin" tab menu item, just like the Admin position does, but it provides access only to the default permissions and whatever permissions you add.   This may all that is needed to allow moderation of the forum, so I've set it up and we will soon see how it works.

If it does not work, I can complie a email list of forum users, and move them over to a new forum program if necessary, right?

Again, Thanks to all, and I hope the SMF folks are listening.

P.S. BlackMage, if you still want a look at our forum with admin permissions, let me know offline.  Does PM mean Private Message?
