Calender notifications

I would like users to receive a notification whenever an event is added to the calendar.  I had thought that if the calender is linked to a forum, and the user had notifications set for that forum, then the user would get a notification when the calender event is added.  However, it doesn't seem to be the case: notifications are only triggered if the event is added directly as a topic in the forum (the user then has to remember to link it back to the calender).

Can anyone suggest a mod that would make this work as I want?
