Hi,

Just discovered SMF and I'm trying to convert my YaBB 2.1 board as a test. The conversion seemed to be going well but it seems to be stuck at 'Converting posts (part 2)'.

The number after 'substep' in the URL got up to about 270000 or something, about right as I have around that number of posts on my YaBB board. But now the URL is:

http://www.domain.com/smf/convert.php?step=1&substep=0&cstep=11&start=0

It still loads the page each time and looks as it it's doing something but the URL never changes from the above and it's been doing this for about two hours now!

Is this normal or is it stuck?!?

Update:

It crashed out about 30 minutes later with a load of errors. I reset everything and started again. This time it got to 'Converting posts (part 3)' and did the same thing, just reloading the same URL forever, but this time on step 12:

http://domain.com/smf/convert.php?step=1&substep=12&cstep=12&start=0

Thanks in advance.

It looks like my current host, 1&1 Internet, have a size limit of 100MB on MySQL databases! I've just checked and when the converter gets stuck the size of my database is 101MB!

Looks like I'll be looking for a new host then...

Well that certainly doesn't help you does it.  Were you able to find a new host and get your forum converted?  Also be sure to use the latest converter from the download converter section.

Hi Rumbaar,

Yes, I found a new host (SiteGround). Got a package for less per year than I was paying for 3 months with 1&1!

Anyway, got the forum converted, with the help of posts on this forum! A few issues with polls but nothing that couldn't be fixed by hand. We're still testing at the moment, playing with various mods, but it's looking good for doing a real conversion and going live with SMF very soon.

I've been playing with the new SMF 2 public beta and really like it. Can't wait for the final release! Keep up the great work guys!

That is great to hear.  It can be hard to find a decent host sometimes, glad your current one is much better and I hope it continue to be a good host for your.

Have fun checking out SMF!
