Animated Gif\'s not working - Avatar

I have been trying to get an animated gif to work as an avatar, Problem is the picture will show up, but it does not animate, I've checked many settings and found one for either uploading as a png or jpg, no option for gif.

Any ideas on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks alot for the help. I did the wrong search and I was looking everywhere on here for it.

but the problem was the GD, and I had to change the size setting for the Thumbnail. Works perfect!
