mod request for listing files in a specified directory

I need a mod  that will index all the files stored in the host and create download link of those files .... and i like to list the files in in a post or in a section or in a topic or using a tag that encloses the physical path of the directory.... and the files are shown

This sounds wildly dangerous, security-wise (unless there's some detail I'm missing)

Its like suppose I want to give read-only access to a specific directory... for registered users .... containing public downloadable stuffs... the contents of that directory are updated regularly ... I want to  show the contents of the directory in "Admin created posts" with direct download links.

Have you tried the built-in features of apache? I mean sure it won't be embedded in your post (unless you enable iframe html code) but it does the job a lot more securely than some file browsing php code could do.
