I need your opinions or knowledge on this. I have a new SMF forum and its mostly for my good friends. Only problem is I have this I.P. 66.249.70.144 sitting there all the time. He never looks at the forums or any part of the site. I have tried using the ban system on him, but he just keeps coming back like 5 or 6 times a  day. I'm guessing he is using some of the bandwidth, who knows? What do I do about him?

You'll get some spiders which visit your forum quite alot.

When I get an IP I want to know who it belongs to I use

Thank you VB and Karl, that was very helpful. I bookmarked those sites for future reference. It turned out one was Google and the other was Yahoo. So I guess they don't seem harmful to me. I will still keep an eye on those types of 'spider' IP's though. I'm learning thanks to people like you all. Very good...

I have a question on the same topic. i found

smf inurl:index.php action register natural

as query string in my log. Would it be more likely to be a bot or a hacker fiddling for an exploit?

karlbenson

It could be either.
But I don't think it will be a problem though.
