Hello,

I have a mod request for anyone who is interested.  How difficult would it be to create a User Login Message say, within the area where the news fader goes, that is displayed under the member bar on every page, until the guest decides to join or login.  Then, after login, the message would switch back to the news fader box (or advertising header, if used).

I would recommend the following text for such a message.  This is only proposed text for this message.  I found it while looking at another SMF member forum.

The way things currently are that is not hard to add to the theme files. People alter the messages guests see on a regular basis, actually. You may want to look into it. $context['user']['is_logged'] and $context['user']['is_guest'] are the two variables I see used for detecting it on a regular basis, I believe.

Why is it everybody knows more than me?

Hello,

I understand that this can be done. I have been doing a lot (A LOT) of reading on this forum.  My problem is that I am new to forums and PHP.  I have no idea (yet) how to create this as a mod to a theme.  Just thought I could get enough input to make it happen.

In English:

It takes very little to add a block of code in a theme is shown only when someone is, or is not, logged into the forum. There should be various topics on this matter to begin with, although if you don't understand very basic PHP and HTML it can be more difficult to accomplish. Asking for help in the scripting or help wanted areas may be your best bet in that case.
