What does this mean?

Either you don't have access to what they are looking at (doubtful, if you are an admin) or they are doing something that does not generate a proper Who's Online string.

That means that a certain action=customaction usually from a modification is not defined for the who's online page which causes that default text to appear.

Having looked at my logs to see what is happening, I think this is Russian spammers trying to hack sites to insert advertising pages. My forum is constantly being hit by them, but so far they haven't succeeded.

SMF is generally not susceptible to RFI attacks such as this, since we go to great lengths to ensure the integrity of the data passed to the files is secure and proper
