Hide IP in profiles for members

I have not been able to figure out how to hie IP address when a member hits the profile of another. I already deleted the icons and such from the postings. The email address is "hidden" and I'd like IP to be same for non-moderators.

Probably something basic but please help. Thanks

H

The IP address of other should be hidden by default unless you've accidentally given members moderation permissions

I set it up with guests, members, moderators,  etc...

The regular members are set as view member profiles and own profile.

If you go to posts the IP is hidden no problem. But in that post if you hit the member it brings up detailed info on them which includes their IP address. The email shows hidden.

I didn't change anything as everything is still basically default settings except I did remove all the ICQ and other icons from the postings and member profile.

Where is the setting that determines this? I can either alter the code or change the setting in admin if I know where to look. Thanks

H

Perhaps the moderate forum permission, although unlikely? Alternatively it could be possible you accidentally remove something from a template that is making the IP show?

can you post a screenshot -- but not while logged in as admin, but as a regular member, of what you mean?

This is what a regular member would see with no moderator status if they click on someones profile. As you can see the email shows as hidden but the IP is clearly stated. For obvious reasons I want to hide the IP to guests and members and keep it for moderators otherwise I'd just delete some code to remove it... Any help would be great. I did remove the ICQ and other items per the detailed post on the subject on this forum but otherwise I have done nothing to the code.

Thats the thing -- it shouldn't be showing to regular members unless they have the permission noted above -- you may wish to check your permissions.

Otherwise, can you please create a test account with member access and post the login details?  Thanks

OK the website is hxxp:www.salonbabble.com [nonactive] U - test  P - test

This will be a member login. As you will not I have basically done nothing to it other than a basic setup. To clarify the IP address does not show to a visitor or guest but does show to anyone that would register as a standard member.

Does it show up in the default theme (i'm not able to switch to it)?  I'm wondering if it is a theme issue or if theres something more subtle at work here

Good question. Unfortunately when I allow users to modify the IP still shows up.

I would switch the profile to eliminate the ability to see profiles but then you can't pm and cross communicate off board which is something of value I think...

metallica48423

what permisions do you have set for the regular members group?  Would you be willing to provide me an admin account to take a look with?  (privately of course)

Alright, i took a look and i see nothing out of line with permissions.  So my next question is about php version.  If you could create and link me to a phpinfo (What is phpinfo.php?), i can look at that.

How was this board originally installed, and how has it been upgraded (if applicable)?  I may need to look at some of the files :)

my details...
PHP version is: 5.2.5
mySQL version is: 5.0.45

With that login you can go into the css files for the whole thing. I didn't modify any of the php files. I am not sure how I'd get you a link to the php files. I guess if you told me which one I can cut and paste or follow your directions on how to get you a link.

This thing was loaded using fantastico on bluehost took me all of 4 seconds. And was the most recent version 1.1.4. The only thing I did was load a bunch of templates and delete a few lines of code related to icg msn and other instant programs.

delete some code??

lol..

restore the code and see what happens!

you probably deleted the part that says "if userisadmin"

so now it shows the IP to everybody

That is strange.

jimmyv, i'll have to look at this tomorrow as i need to get some sleep...

I may not be able to view the file i need to if it doesn't exist in your theme -- does your custom theme have a profile.template.php? -- forumnoob may not be all that far off

OK overwrote the profile.template.php

That worked on the ips but of course created other problems. Will work through them but this issue is resolved. Thanks very, very much for all the help.

you are VERY lucky to have caught this!

Normally, when you cut, cut and snip and inadvertently delete an "IF" logic test, you usually mess it up so much that you have a parse error or similar - the resulting code just will not run, so usually you catch it right away.

In this particular instance, the code DID run, but luckily there were visible symptoms that allowed you to ask for help and find the problem..

(I wonder if anything showed up in your error logs while this was happening? - its very good to check your Error logs periodically, although sometimes they have too much info to wade through)

If your code was ever compromised an entry in the error log may be your first warning
