is there a way for your users to earn points on your forum? ex: when they post?

You could always rename Karma to points, then use the Automatic Karma mod to earn points. Just disable the ability for people to give others karma (points) and you'll have a simple points system.

I can't seem to install the automatic karma mod. I go to my packages section of the admin cp, and click on install the mod, but it says: This mod is not compatable with this version of SMF.

I believe that I am using v 1.1.14 or whatever that one is.

Try installing manually then.
